Hi parents! Early on in babysitting, I found that I strived to be more than just someone to feed and keep the kids safe. I look to be a sort of teacher role for the children. The younger the babies are the sooner they will come to understand the teacher-figure. This loosely translates into kids having less attachment/detachment with parents and teachers respectively, while emphasizing the foundation of respect that makes both relationships healthiest for the children.
First priority is building comfortability with the child, which is my favorite part of the entire experience together. Each child is different and my goal remains the same as any parents’—to encourage the children’s individuality while making sure they feel safe. Over the years, I have worked with my cousin who happens to be challenged mentally but has the biggest heart of anyone I’ve ever had the privilege of coming into contact with. It feels amazing to say that he is happiest to see me at family functions and that we’ve both helped each other grow in ways i couldn’t have imagined. Since babysitting for family, I’ve learned to incorporate spanish into the kid’s vocabulary.
Being of Mexican descent in a English-speaking country, I have seen how easy it is for people to forget or never learn the language. Whether it be something you’d like me to introduce to your child is completely up to you. Aside from family, I was the designated babysitter for LA Fitness-a position that wasn’t always so exclusive until the parents of the children i worked with brought the suggestion to my manager. Reflecting pre school in some cases, dropping children off would be a challenge. I noticed this early on and found ways to make the kids feel excited to stay with me for that hour or two while their parents worked out, whether it meant group activities with the older children and more one-on-one with the babies, I found that i was really enjoying what i did. I am very excited to get to speak with you and to being that form of reliability you’re looking for!
